Jan 2 - The Eglinton River

Bidding a fond farewell to Dunedin, and having only 3 days left before we had to exchange the Surf for a rental roller skate we headed west. Didn't know exactly where yet, but just "thataway".

We had visited the Eglinton on our last trip (click here) but it's a beautiful place so we wanted to see it again. So we made the voyage in spite of the hordes going up and down the highway to Milford sound. On our last visit we left at Christmas time. The surge in frenetic hordeism after Christmas is unbelievable, It's not likely we'll come again, but if we do we will be out of here before Christmas or not come until March. I go to great lengths to take pictures devoid of hordites. That way when I get old(er) and more feeble minded I can look at the pictures and pretend it was peaceful solitude.

The first night we camped at the river.

Cynthia's take on nature photography

90 degrees to the right there are 50 tourists taking the same picture

Clean water

The second night we spent in Te Anau. The next day we made for Queenstown. A few things along the way:

Camping...kiwi-style

Rising to a natural...

At this point we just want to be home...killing time...
